Tag: The TBR Tag

I found this tag via the absolutely lovely Lydia. It was actually my inspiration to try and do a blog tag so woo!

This tag does what it says on the tin – it’s basically evaluating my TBR. Genuinely, I’ve kept my head in the sand for far too long about the enormity of my TBR so this has been a bit of an eye opener & mighty also fun!

  1. How do you keep track of your TBR pile?
  2. Is your TBR mostly print or eBook?
  3. How do you determine which book to read next from your TBR?
  4. A book that’s been on your TBR the longest?
  5. A book you recently added to your TBR?
  6. A book on your TBR strictly because of its beautiful cover?
  7. A book on your TBR that you never plan on reading?
  8. An unpublished book on your TBR that you’re excited for?
  9. A book on your TBR that basically everyone has read but you?
  10. A book on your TBR that everyone recommends to you?
  11. A book on your TBR that you’re dying to read?
  12. How many books are on your Goodreads TBR?

How do you keep track of your TBR pile?
I don’t? Genuinely, this is the first time I’ve actually paid attention to it. I try to pretend it doesn’t exist. But it’s actually smaller than I thought – a round 155 books isn’t too bad I don’t think!

Is your TBR mostly print or eBook?
I have a kindle but truthfully the only TBR I count is my physical book collection that I can see staring at me. I have loads of books on my kindle that I haven’t read but I can’t read from a digital screen when I’m travelling. This is a problem as most of my reading is done on my daily commute!

How do you determine which book to read next from your TBR?
I’m currently taking part in a reading challenge (year long) that has 52 goals to achieve when reading. So I was doing them in order, then I got frustrated of not reading what my mood wanted to read so I decided to just read for the categories that I fancied reading from! I do like doing a monthly TBR as it gives me something to work towards, I wasn’t sure if it was going to work for me but it seems to be so YAY!

Generally my process is just what my mood tells me – I have no masterful method. Though I am considering a TBR jar. I think that could be fun!

A book that’s been on your TBR the longest?
Ooooh. Starter for Ten and Cloud Atlas have been there quite a while! I think they may have indeed been there the longest too, they’re two books I’m very much “I will read you. One day. Just not right now”

A book you recently added to your TBR?
Elizabeth is Missing. I bought this in February. A lot of the books I bought in February were actually books I’ve wanted to read for a long while and/or wanted a physical copy of so this was one of the very few impulse purchases of the month (along with 15 of the Little Black Classics, but shhhh!)

A book on your TBR strictly because of its beautiful cover?
Faery Tales by Carol Ann Duffy. It’s pretty much the only book on my bookshelf I bought purely because of the cover and haven’t read yet. Though I am a sucker for Penguin classics (clothbound, paperback, give me all the covers!)

A book on your TBR that you never plan on reading?
I’d like to say I’ll get to ALL the books on my bookshelf at some point. I hope to half the books on my shelf this year. I’m going to cut down buying and up my reading (at least that’s the plan, it hasn’t worked out so well this year so far!)

An unpublished book on your TBR that you’re excited for?
I don’t really think about books until they’re published truthfully! The last book I was looking forward to was How to be Both!

Actually, this is really nerdy, but a book I am really excited for (and has possibly been released before this is published to my blog) is Junk DNA: A Journey Through the Dark Matter of the Genome by Nessa Carey. I know. Nerdy! I read a book she wrote a called The Epigenetics Revolution a few years ago and really enjoyed it. I said it was nerdy!

A book on your TBR that basically everyone has read but you?
Where do I begin? I’ve never followed bookish fads (I’ve not read The Hunger Games and have no intention to! Do I appear to care what anyone else has read? Clearly not.) I guess The Picture of Dorian Gray is the main one based on the sort of fiction I do read! Also, The Great Gatsby and The Lord of the Rings!

A book on your TBR that everyone recommends to you?
The remainder of the MaddAddam trilogy by Atwood. The 15 Lives of Harry August by Claire North, most of the work by Murakami that is sat on my shelf and Austen. It always comes back to Jane Austen!

A book on your TBR that you’re dying to read?
Artful by Ali Smith.

And all of the classics sat on my shelves that I haven’t yet read (this isn’t including my black penguins or my little black classics which are on a different shelf, or my modern classics which are integrated with my general fiction):

Yes, that is a crystal in the style of The Crystal Maze. Yep.

  1. How many books are on your Goodreads TBR?
Apparently -6. Yeah. Don’t know how that happened. I’ve actually stopped using the goodreads TBR function – so I deleted my entire GR TBR – because I have a habit of buying books cheap and then giving them away because I’ve lost the will to read them; but if I’ve added them to a TBR it borks my numbers. So I actually stood and counted which books I had on my shelves and it’s 155 in my bedroom. There are some books in the lounge that I’d like to read but they’re family books and not my ‘personal’ collection as such!
